When we think of veils the first thing that comes to our minds are bridal veils.  There are other types of veils such as the first communion veil.

Little girls will wear a veil and headpiece when they celebrate their first communion.  Another time a little girl may wear a veil is in her role as a flower girl.  This isn’t as common but since most flower girls wear a white gown and precede the bride down the aisle it gives the impression of a miniature bride coming in front of the real bride and can really make an impact.  We are showing a girls veil and headpiece on the left.

Your bridal veil will finish your look and complement your gown.  Choosing the right bridal veil will depend on your own personal style and preferences.

The chapel length bridal veils are extremely popular because they add a long train that will trail behind you as you walk down the aisle.  Another thing to consider is that most brides prefer to wear their bridal veil at the reception so the perfect compromise is the veil that has the longest veil that is detachable.  The bride gets the grandeur of the long  veil and the convenience of a shorter veil for her reception.

When choosing your bridal veil keep in mind your wedding gown and how your bridal veil will accent it.  Elaborate wedding gowns usually look best with a plain illusion veil.  This type of veil will not compete with your gown but add the finishing touch.

Custom bridal veils come in all sorts of lengths from shoulder length to the chapel bridal veil that is around ten feet long.  All custom bridal beils are 108 inches wide.  This makes for a bridal veil that has plenty of fullness and will act like a cloud to frame your head.

Bridal veils used to be used for really covering the bride so that her groom could not see her until the vows were completed.  Todays brides are adorned with bridal veils that that are made from illusion tulle and are mostly nylon.  A standard bridal veil is 72 to 84 inches wide with the length varying to suit the individual bride.  Custom bridal veils are 108 inches wide and have a much fuller look to them.

Bridal veils are the finishing touch to the look of the bride.  Bridal veils come in many lengths and several standard widths.

A custom veil will almost always be 108 inches wide with varying lengths available from shoulder length to the long chapel length.  Most standard veils are 72 inches wide with the length again being varied according to the tastes of the bride.  Bridal veils that have a scattering of pearls and rhinestones will go with most gowns today.  Bridal veils with lace adornments will enhance a plainer dress.  A very ornate dress will almost always look best with bridal veils that have no embellishments on them and are instead enhanced with a fabulous tiara.

Now that you have your dress you can think about your bridal veil.  It will pay you to take your time and do some shopping online for the perfect veil.

If your dress is heavily ornamented you may want to opt for a plain tulle veil so it doesn’t compete with your dress.   If you are having a formal evening wedding you might want to consider a chapel length veil that will trail along behind you as you walk down the aisle.  If your dress is very simple you can dress it up by choosing a veil that has pearls, rhinestones, lace or all of this type of added detail.

Once you have chosen your dress then you can think about your bridal veil.  Yourbridal veil should complement your dress.

Bridal veils come in two basic widths of either 72 inches or 108 inches.  The wider the veil, the poufier it will be, adding a halo of tulle around your head.  The length can be as short as shoulder length to chapel length which will be about five foot of train.  If you choose a bridal veil that is chapel length, consider getting one that has a detachable bottom layer so that you will not have to carry it around with you during your reception.  Bridal veils that are decorated with pearls, crystals, lace and beading will add to the simpler gown or accent a heavily beaded gown.

veilYou’ve found the perfect dress, the invitations are in the mail, and the chapel is reserved and just waiting for you to walk down the aisle. The wedding plans are going better than planned, but there are a few niggling details to be worked out. As the bride-to-be, it’s crucial that you look your best. Just think of all the wedding photos that will be taken from every conceivable angle – both in the church and in the reception hall afterward. You’ll want to look angelic and gorgeous for posterity.

Out of all the last minute details that need to be ironed out, the cosmetic ones are perhaps most important. What sort of accessories do you want adorning your head and face? According to tradition, a bride would wear a wedding veil to symbolize virginity and shyness. More recently, tiaras have been a popular replacement that allows brides to show off their expertly applied makeup. In either case, the choice is up to you.

pearl-edge-veilIn ancient times it was the custom to hide the bride until the groom had committed to the marraige. It was also used to hide the brides beauty and ward off evil spirits.

Bridal veils today are worn more for their beauty and accent to the wedding gown than for the ancient customs. Bridal veils add to the splendor of the brides apparel and set her apart from the wedding party and guests. Bridal veils are usually made from tulle and worn in either white or ivory. Some veils have elaborate embelllishments added to them and many veils today have either ribbon or pearl trim banding the edges of the veil.
